RideSafer 2 Crotch Strap

RideSafer crotch strap

Why is there a Crotch Strap with RideSafer? And what is it’s purpose? And do I need to use it? Watch this video to find out.

The crotch strap that comes with the RideSafer  is an optional piece that is meant to help keep the RideSafer vest from riding up the child’s back.

Update 2019: We are now on Generation 5 model vests. In previous generations (2 and 3) the vest had two options, “RideSafer 2” which was tetherable but did not have adjustable straps and “RideSafer 3” which had adjustable straps but was not tetherable. During this time only the RideSafer 2 came with a crotch strap to help hold the back of the vest down. Since RideSafer 3 had adjustable straps, the crotch strap was unnecessary. Since the current generation has adjustable straps (and is tetherable) most parents don’t have a need for the crotch strap. But some still like to use it especially for “escapee” children who may otherwise slip out the bottom to escape their restraint.

Please note, in some situations the crotch strap can cause the lap portion to angle upward toward the belly, making it easier for the vest to creep up an the seat belt get out of proper position.

As you can see in the video, the crotch strap is easy to connect to the vest.

On a personal note: our children found the crotch strap uncomfortable and we found it tedious to use so never used it without children.

If the back of the vest rides up, we found it just as effective and easier to have our children lean forward, pull the vest down in the back and have them lean back again. Often times, we notice the back of the vest rides up because the child slides down into the vehicle seat or because the tether strap is over tight. (It just needs to be taut not tightened like you would with a 5-point harness, see the video about the RideSafer tether strap here.)

    1. I see an order came through. I want to be clear the crotch strap comes with a vest. There is no need to purchase one with a new vest.

  1. I lost my crotch strap for my JD14001BLB XSMALL size. Where can I get for replacement, or can I still use this without the straps?

    1. They will be available again when we are back in the office and able to ship them later this week.
