CAN I USE THE RIDESAFER WITH THE VEHICLE SEAT PARTIALY RECLINED?
The manufacturer says, “the bench seat that we are required to test on has a back recline angle of -17 degrees from vertical. We have no issues with you reclining the seat back to a greater degree but the vehicle manufacturer may have a specific recline as the maximum. We would be comfortable with up to a 25-30 degree recline as long as the vehicle manufacturer permits it.”
The shoulder belt needs to be crossing the center of the collarbone and touching the sternum (center of the chest). If the seat back is reclined too far, the shoulder belt ends up in front of the body instead of touching it.
The manufacturer, Safe Traffic Systems, permits the seat back to be angled backward as long as the shoulder belt would still be touching the collarbone even if the shoulder belt was not going through the belt guide on our vest. If it meets this test, then the seat can be reclined and the seat belt attached in the seat belt guides of the vest as instructed.
